Photomatix Setting in HDR Photography

Photomatix is always a first choice to produce High Dynamic Range Photo by newbie HDR photographer and especially professional photographer. But most newbie HDR photographer make the wrong setting at certain part of Photomatix when comes to tonemapping setting. There all always make a mistake at the setting of light smoothing. This part is crucial in making a good HDR photo or bad HDR photo.

very-high high medium
veryhigh2 high2 medium2
low very-low
low2 verylow2

Above are example of same photo with different setting on Light Smoothing section. There a radio button you can choose from very high, high, medium, low and very low. Each photo using the setting of the option and you can click on the photo to view the differences. Usually there make mistake by choosing the low and very low setting, because there want to more HDR looks on the photo. I always use this in the early of my HDR photography and feel good. But when looks on other professional HDR photographer, I realize that my HDR photo is worst.

After experimenting with Photomatix setting, I always choose the medium or high setting on light smoothing. Very high setting usually make the photo a bit darker so stick on medium or high setting to make a good process HDR photo. For you that new to HDR photography you can view HDR tutorial and the process in Photoshop after tonemapping setting to produce High Dynamic Range photo.
