Manchester United accept world record £80million Real Madrid transfer bid for Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is to be sold to Real Madrid for a world record transfer fee of £80million.

The bid brings to an end a long-running courtship between the 24-year-old and the Spanish giants that has dragged on since last summer.

Madrid’s president Florentino Perez vowed earlier this week to do ‘everything possible’ to buy Ronaldo, who was named the world’s best player for his stunning displays last season.

The sum smashes the biggest transfer fee for a football player which was broken only this week when Madrid paid £56million for Brazilian superstar Kaka.

And it is likely that Ronaldo will become the highest paid footballer in the world.
